The food industry seeks new markets

21 Jun 2018

The companies trust to relaunch their business in Tecno Fidta, the technological exhibition that will take place in September in Costa Salguero.

The food sector is one of the more booming export complexes in the country.  At the same time, it is subject to constant challenges: technological changes, new consumption habits, health barriers and the volatility of the international economy.

In this sense, the manufacturers and suppliers of machinery and supplies that make up this value chain trust to open their business to the world by showing their latest news in Tecno Fidta, the 14th Food Technology, Additives and Ingredients Trade Fair, that will be carried out on September 18-21 in Costa Salguero Center of Buenos Aires.

Some recent indicators show positive data of the sector and hope these to be shown in the business atmosphere that will be generated during the four days of the fair.

One of the best indexes is the meat one, whose exports in April showed an increase of 39.9% in the sales value, compared to the same month of the previous year[1]. The quantities exported also grew, since in the first four-month period shipments of 143,000 tons in bone-in-beef were made, a level that has not been exceeded since 2009[2].

The fishing one is another sector that left good results in April: a 12.7% increase, compared to the same month in 2017. This industry is one of the economic activities that records more geographical diversification in their shipments, reaching regularly to more than a hundred of international markets.

Regarding dairy products, the exports show a jump in values of US$ 46.8 millions, a 20.9% more than in April, 2017.

Both poultry farming and pork industry have also consolidated in the last years as booming business niches, with a strong presence in the internal market and with exports that jointly exceed 230,000 tons a year. Besides, the World Organization for Animal Health internationally recognized Argentina as a country free of Classic swine fever, a status that positively impacts in the positioning of this product in global markets.

And though some sector experienced a decrease in exports in terms of quantities -thus showing the industrial framework complexity- the average prices increased, with a positive result in foreign sales. We still have to assess the impact of the exchange rate increase, a measure that the business professionals have been demanding to improve their competitiveness.

In Tecno Fidta, the 6th International Matchmaking Program of Buyers of Food Technology, Additives and Ingredients will offer Argentine manufacturers the possibility of contacting directly potential foreign customers, thus promoting the link between offer and demand and favoring the closing of commercial operations. The activity is organized by Messe Frankfurt Argentina jointly with the Argentine Agency of Investments and International Commerce.

Tecno Fidta will be held from 18 to 21 September, 2018 in Costa Salguero Center.
